And then there are homes that seem to have collected the very best parts of several decades.

Welcome to Surprise, Arizona, September 24th through the 26th, where this incredible sale begins exactly where it should—with a restored canary yellow 1979 Toyota Land Cruiser, manual transmission and all.

And this one is impossible to ignore.

Picture 1979. No touch screens. No push-button start. No lane assist. No driving modes deciding what the vehicle should do for you.

You had a steering wheel, a gearshift, four-wheel drive and somewhere to go.

The Land Cruiser of this era had already earned its reputation as one of Toyota’s legendary back-to-basics four-wheel drives. By 1979, the 40-Series era featured the 4.2-liter inline-six and four-speed manual transmission Toyota had introduced several years earlier, wrapped in the wonderfully upright, purposeful shape that would become instantly recognizable around the world. Toyota itself describes the FJ40 of this period as a minimalist, trail-conquering machine whose durability helped build the Land Cruiser legend.

Now paint it canary yellow.

Recently passing Arizona emissions, restored and looking like it drove straight out of another time, this is the kind of vehicle that makes you want to open the door, grab the gearshift and remember when getting behind the wheel actually felt like an adventure.

There sits an AKAI GX-635D four-track open-reel tape deck, surrounded by two sets of Sansui SP-3500 floor speakers and the unmistakable feeling that, once upon a time, listening to music wasn’t background noise.

It was something you did.

You chose the album.

You pulled it from the sleeve.

You lowered the needle.

And you listened.

The soundtrack in this house is a good one.

The Beatles. Santana. The Moody Blues. The Animals. The Young Rascals. Queen. ABBA. Peter Frampton.

Albums that instantly put you somewhere else.

And then we went digging a little deeper and found the vintage 4-tracks.

Yes, 4-tracks.

Eric Clapton, The Beatles, Jethro Tull, Santana, Yes, The Rolling Stones, Queen, John Lennon, The Doors and even Tommy, The Movie.

If reading those names just put a song in your head—or transported you into the car you drove, the concert you attended or the room where you first heard that album—you already understand what makes this sale so much fun.

It keeps taking you back.

And then, without warning, it brings you right back to now.

The vintage Sansuis suddenly share the house with a Sony STR-DH590 multi-channel receiver, Yamaha NS-SW050 subwoofer, Pyle USA PT694BT AV surround receiver and Pioneer PL-990 turntable, while two LG OLED65A1AUA 65-inch OLED televisions bring the entertainment collection firmly into the present.

From open reel to OLED.

From 4-tracks to surround sound.

That is this house.

And every room seems to turn another page.

Keep walking and you begin finding pieces of American history.

An extraordinary U.S. Navy Spanish-American War-era copper tilting percolator immediately catches your attention, followed by a Tour of Duty commemorative map, POW and Vietnam Veterans flags, antique photographs and pieces of postal history that seem to have survived from an entirely different America.

Vintage USPS banks, private mailbox covers and door covers appear alongside collectible Brumberger Brooklyn and Foxburg coin banks—the kinds of things that make you stop looking at them simply as objects and start wondering where they have been.

Then the scenery changes again.

Zion. Monument Valley. Sedona. The Colorado aspens.

Lithographs and canvases by Billy Jacobs, Thomas Kinkade, R. Hendrickson, Steven Love and Scott Stulberg bring the American West indoors, surrounded by glowing amber and emerald glass, warm copper, wrought iron and beautifully textured wood.

This home has character.

Raw-edge wood bowls and console tables sit among wrought-iron candleholders and wall sconces. Sienna Fireworks candleholders and vases by Roger Calhoun add rich color, while distressed barn-door media consoles and copper wall sculptures bring warmth and texture throughout the rooms.

Then a handsome Howard Miller brass chronometer clock catches your eye.

A vintage Seth Thomas mantel clock takes you back again.

A Moroccan glass-and-metal lantern sends you somewhere else entirely.

And tucked among all of it are several Stauer men’s watches, including the 1944 Ritorno Automatic, Metropolitan Quartz, Timemaster Piezo, Urban Blue and Meisterzeit Automatic.

By now, you may think you have figured this house out.

You haven’t.

Because then you walk into the kitchen.

Apparently, whoever equipped this kitchen believed that if you were going to cook, you might as well do it properly.

There’s a Le Creuset stockpot among hammered copper bowls and canisters, an approximately 90-piece Noritake Nippon fine china service and one gloriously unexpected five-gallon Libbey glass pig bottle.

Then we found the KitchenAid Professional 600 mixer.

And its accessories.

And a brand-new KitchenAid grinder still in the box.

And a brand-new gourmet pasta press still in the box.

At which point it became fairly obvious this was not going to be an ordinary kitchen.

Lightly used and brand-new Pampered Chef pieces continue throughout, with stoneware baking dishes, lasagna bakers, pizza stones, baking sheets, cooling racks, mixing bowls, measuring bowls and an ice cream and sorbet maker.

A Cabela’s Deluxe meat slicer, C&C Mexico soup bowls, Oneida and Reed & Barton stainless flatware, two NuWave induction cooktops and a vintage Foley rolling pin keep the discoveries coming.

And somewhere around this point, you may think you’ve seen the sale.

You haven’t.

Because we still haven’t properly introduced you to the two garages.

We are uncovering hundreds of tools.
