I'm back! I know it's been a minute but you are gonna LOVE this Beautiful Craftsman Home in Fountain Valley! When I say Craftsman, that is no exaggeration. The entire house was lovingly designed and remodeled by a master craftsman who was in fact, written up in the paper for his work here. And boy did they love Cowboys and Indians! Native American lovers are going have a blast looking around here! They also loved Civil War and Asian antiques. so many things that don't regularly show up! When they shopped for antiques, they didn't mess around...
We'll start with furniture. A heavy slant on Mission style. Mission sofa tables and coffee table.1 Mission era desk and 1 Mission library table by Imperial. Mission chairs and 2 original (Windsor) chairs. A contemporary, upholstered, sofa that works with the room. A nearly new black leather recliner. A Mission style dining table with 6 chairs and 2 leaves. Some really gorgeous, better, Tiffany style lamps and several different light fixture styles all over the house. A large, hand-crafted, Welsh style cabinet/hutch/sideboard. Mission china hutch and small, early drop-leaf table. A couple of very ornate upholstered chairs and an "over the top" French Console table with a mirror over the top. Did I say Lawyer cases? Several different beautys around the home-different sizes and heights. Handcrafted book cases. An original Wells Fargo Bank chair, a 19th century Saloon chair, painted Asian cabinet and some stuff I have forgotten!
Then there is the living room. This home is not heavy on the glassware and Victorian china, it's heavy on the Art and all art pieces Native American, Cowboys and Asian. Almost all these treasures are "the real deal". There is a signed Asian bronze (listed artist) a 3ish ft tall hand-carved, 19th C, Chinese sculpture that they purchased at auction 30 years ago( a true antique and work of art) and another lovey Asian gal that is Artisan made. There is a beautiful Chinese Apothecary sign hanging over the master bed that looks like a headboard(but it's hanging). So rare, so old and so unique and difficult to pin down... Several pieces of Native American pottery and baskets. Collection of Cowboy, Indian, horse figurines, metal sculpture and all forms of related curiosities. Some decorative pottery pieces, a few antique clocks including an stunning Grandfather and other sculptures.
Kitchen is full of the usual suspects BUT with a slant to the early kitchen! A nice selection of cast iron cookware. There is some glassware and stemware, a couple of partial sets of dinnerware and actually some Beam bottles. Cookware and appliances and gadgets to make things easier. Bakeware and accessories.A perfectly functioning fridge. So much stuff!
So let's talk about the wall art. There are soooooooo many pieces of Cowboy and Indian art. The centerpiece, which will go to auction if it does not sell here, is by Native American artist Frank Howell. Native American Elder with flow white hair and a red tunic. Dark background and 4 feathers on each side of his tunic. Doesn't have an official name but the studio from which it came called him "Red Feather". You can easily find him in prints, on line, but this is the one the prints were made from! The real deal!
Signed prints by the spectacular David Wright. There are vintage prints and posters framed (like Roy Rogers and such!) and a framed cowboy circus poster. These are the things I'm remembering but there is so much more that I am still working with! There is an INCREDIBLE selection of books!! Scarce books-harder to find, and some I just couldn't find-yes, I did have to look at each and every book as they spent thousands and thousands of dollars on books over the years! Subject matter is --you guessed it-Cowboys, Indians Civil War, WWI, Spanish American War, Craftsman woodworking and LOADS of gun books! Don't get too excited guys as the family took ALL that subject matter out of the home and to auction.
BUT there are many items related, like belts, a fine collection of holsters, sheaths, cases, SPURS and more. Some dating back to the Civil War. And knives-he loved knives! There are some old spears, old(better) bows a Civil War sword and a Civil War Cap.
Linens, household items, toiletries and, misc household related stuff. There is a nice selection of both men's clothing and women's clothing, shoes, belts and accessories! Walk in closet is housing it and we have St. John's Knits, band shirts and so much more. LADIES, we have purses! A nice selection of designer bags including a Gucci. (And some nice shoes, as well!) There are some Civil War reenactment clothes and some ladies band shirts.
A bed in the master and twin in another room. Small selection of toys and Disney and some rolled prints, posters and maps. Some vintage, comic books(still working on those)
YES, there is jewelry-quite a bit! Costume jewelry, sterling and some better, finer pieces! Before you get too excited, the family kept almost all of the native American jewelry although there is a bit. I have been through half and the largest portion is going in my famous $3- crate. There is stuff from fine to fun. Pieces both vintage and modern. Still looking at this but again, GREAT costume and fine pieces gold and silver. (No valuables kept on premises at any time.)
Then there is the garage. If you were focused, you noted "Master Craftsman" aka "Master Carpenter". There is a complete wood shop in the garage-that's all it's been used for decades. So it's packed! My guy has been out there trying to go through it but it's a challenge! I haven't been through it yet so I can't be too specific but I can tell you that there are 1000's of tools-from large power tools to small hand tools. All vintages! There are hand tools and all the regular garage stuff. We have lots of wood for a dime and a song and you know how pricey wood is now! Cleaning supplies and more. Stackable washer/dryer. We haven’t yet gotten to everything yet but plan to be done by Friday.
Then there is the backyard. Pots, cute garden decor, vintage and other gardening tools, patio furniture and more.(Still) Not done setting up but this is a taste of what to expect!
Cash Only. Bring Help to Load large Items. Sign-up sheet will be available at 3:00pm Thursday. Be considerate of our neighbors and don't park in or in front of driveways!! We are not responsible for accidents! I will add the pictures here on Tuesday evening (when we are done setting up). We will go half-price on Saturday. I still have not gone through every single thing but I believe there is some interesting things-something for most!!! Hope to see you there!
Sincerely, Jewel
