Sale number 1 of the Swanson/ N. Tanaka estate in Normal, IL. Items will be offered as the family releases them. Grandparents were high end antiques dealers in the 1950's thru 80's. All items listed here are available for purchase. Available by appointment only during specific appointment windows. Call or text 309-838-7080. See item description (below) regarding appointment windows. Items are in two different locations.
Item 1: Primitive Pine Sugar Chest. Available June 21. 32" wide, 17" deep, 30" tall. Front small drawer near top. Wide door on base. Lift top. Unknown maker, but very nicely constructed. Sturdy. $200.
Item 2: Blanket Chest - primitive pine. Available June 21. Single board lift top. Handcut dovetails shown on front side. Heavy hinges on top. 39" wide, 17" deep, 29" tall. Unknown maker. Very well constructed. Sturdy. $200.
Item 3: Chest on Chest High Boy. Available June 21. Use as dresser or dining room cabinet. Mahogany with 9 drawers (3 small; 6 large). 42" wide, 66" high, and 21" deep. No known maker (we did not move this one out from the wall, so there may be markings on reverse). The cabinet may have been refinished 40 or more years ago, but all looks same as original. Two pieces (top and bottom). $400.
Item 4: Empire Chest of Drawers. Available June 21. Walnut. 41" wide, 21" deep, and 41" high. Two top small drawers currently stick. We believe new slide rails needed. Three large drawers work well. Unknown maker. Nice, straight forward design. Sturdy. Only repair needed on the two top drawers. $100.
Item 5: Wardrobe. Available June 21. Possibly cherry. Not a breakdown. Single board sides. Elegant two large front doors. Large single bottom drawer. Case width is 48". Add 8" more for overhang on top (see pics). Case depth is 17 1/2". Add 6" for overhang on top. Height is 83" - this is a tall piece. Modified interior for adjustable shelves (not original). Doors are fairly straight with little to no warping. $400.
Item 6: Flip Top Primitive Cabinet. Available June 21. Primitive pine with drawers and lift top. 29" wide, 15" deep, 48" tall. Early porcelain knobs. All drawers and lift top work smoothly. A very unusual piece that is sturdy and ready to use. $200.
Item 7: Primitive Cupboard. Available June 21. Jelly style walnut cupboard with two top drawers and two doors. Opens to 2 original shelves. 41" wide, 18" deep, and 57" tall including the back splash. Darker, original finish. Sturdy and ready to use. $400.
Item 8: Tilt Top Oak Table. Available immediately. Old table with round top and tri legs. Tilts straight up for easier storage when not in use. 46" high when upright tilted, 28" high when in table mode, 33 " wide. Mechanism works well. Locks into place. Ready to use and sturdy. $200.
Item 9: Four Mission Straight Back Chairs. Available immediately. Unknown maker. Four matching chairs with solid oak seats. Original finish and solid. Circa 1910. $750.
Item 10: Antique Miter Box with Saw. Available immediately. Original Nicholls Mfg., Ottumwa, Iowa miter box. 31" wide. Wood and cast iron construction. Extensively used but in very nice condition. Saw is 27" E. D. Adkins, Indianapolis. 1857 Patent. Brass name plate. In very good condition. For the set: all clamps and components included. Ready to use or display. $90.
Item 11: Brass Chandelier. Available immediately. Eight chandelier bulb sockets with fish and mermaid figures. 33" diameter. Fixture height 26". Original patina circa 1940s vintage. Working when taken down 40 years ago. Will need hanging hardware. Unknown maker. Nice condition. $80.
Item 12: Hitch Mount Bike Rack. Available immediately. Has 4 strap holders and holds two bikes comfortably. Adjustable. Hitch mount with adapter for small or regular size intakes. Complete. $20.
Item 13: Floor Lamp, Torchiere. Available immediately. Cast iron and stelel. Brass candle holders. With 3 flicker and 1 flame bulbs. Total height is 70" (with bulbs). Single pull on switch that controls all four bulbs together. Seems to work fine. $200.
Item 14: Wooden Airplane Model. Available immediately. Single wing. 14" long, 16" wide, 8" tall. various woods, all handmade. Looks very nice. $25.
Item 15: Wooden Airplane Model. Available immediately. Bi-plane. 2 wings. 24" long, 21" wide, and 11" high. Steerman, WWII PT 17. Missing one piece - flyer's backrest. $50.
Item 16: JP Coats Spool Cabinet. Available immediately. Two drawer, walnut. 20" wide, 15" deep and 6 1/2" high. Original handles. Letters have some issues (see pictures). SOLD.
Item 17: Bull Steer Horn Set. Available immediately. Texas Longhorn? 60" wide (tip to tip). Tooled leather mount on walnut with hangers. Horns are black and grey. Very good condition. $100.
