Description & Details
A Life of Service, Adventure & Automobiles
Mayo Auction & Realty is honored to present this distinctive automobile collection from the Estate of Richard J. Koury II, a Kansas City native whose life was marked by service, accomplishment, adventure, and a lifelong appreciation for classic cars.
Richard’s story was anything but ordinary. An Eagle Scout and member of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say, he went on to serve his country in the United States Army as a combat infantryman, spending 1967 in South Vietnam during the Vietnam War. After returning home, he continued his education at the University of Missouri Kansas City, earning a business degree in 1971 and his Juris Doctorate in 1974.
Richard built a successful 41-year career practicing law in the Kansas City area, while also pursuing business interests as a real estate developer and classic car dealer. Away from his professional life, he enjoyed hunting, hiking, boating, traveling to Florida with his wife, Cindy, and collecting classic automobiles.
Collection With Character
The cars Richard assembled reflect an appreciation for automobiles that were interesting, distinctive, and fun to own.
This is not a collection defined by a single manufacturer, country or era. Instead, it brings together an engaging mix of iconic classics, European sports cars, rugged four-wheel drives, unusual imports and specialty vehicles.
British motoring is well represented by the unmistakable personality of an Austin-Healey Bugeye Sprite, classic Triumph roadsters, and the rugged appeal of Land Rover Defenders. German automotive history is represented by the timeless lines of the Volkswagen Karmann Ghia and Mercedes-Benz, while distinctive Japanese vehicles, including compact Suzuki utility vehicles and four-wheel drives, add another dimension to the collection.
Alongside the imports are recognizable pieces of American automotive history, including a Ford Model TT Wrecker Truck and Chevrolet Corvette, as well as Jeeps and other vehicles that make this collection as varied as it is memorable.
Taken together, these automobiles have something increasingly difficult to manufacture: personality. Some represent open-air sports-car driving. Others were built to go almost anywhere. Some are instantly recognizable classics, while others are the kind of uncommon vehicle that makes a knowledgeable enthusiast stop, look twice, and start asking questions.
More Than Cars, A Part of a Life
A personal collection tells you something about its owner.
For Richard J. Koury II, automobiles were more than a professional interest. Classic cars remained one of the hobbies he enjoyed throughout his life, alongside the outdoors, travel, and time with family.
That makes this auction an opportunity to acquire more than another vehicle. Each automobile represents a piece of a collection assembled by a man who understood cars, dealt in classic automobiles and chose to surround himself with vehicles that offered history, craftsmanship, adventure or simply the pleasure of something different.
Now, for the first time from his estate, these vehicles are being offered to the next generation of collectors, enthusiasts and drivers.
Whether you are searching for a British roadster for a winding back road, a Defender or four-wheel drive for the next adventure, an iconic classic for your collection, or simply an automobile with a story worth continuing, we invite you to explore the Richard J. Koury II Estate Collection.
The next chapter in the story of these automobiles is ready to be written. Register today, explore the collection, and bid to make one of them your own.
