Info on the sailboat:
The boat is a 28’ Sea Quest, built in St Louis (by my Dad and a number of his friends). Altogether they built 30 of them back in the 70’s. The design was by Philip Rhodes, a well known boat designer. The final boats they made of the 30 were a redesigned collaboration with Rhodes and Phil Bonzon who was also one of the builders, and this redesigned version had a raised deck for additional headroom down below. This boat is one of those raised deck versions.
Additional information: the external ballast on the keel is lead (like a shoe fitting over the keel) and weighs 2800 lbs, and there are 2 masts as well that I believe are aluminum.
We have placed all the boat parts together in a section of the basement including sails, cabinets, a box with blueprints, literature, old pictures, receipts and product brochures, etc.
At first, 10 friends came together to help each other build 10 boats, one for each of them to keep, then it went from there... started to make a business of it, then reconsidered and stopped at 30 when the price of something was just too high. An interesting thing about these boats, since most of the builders sailed on rivers, the centerboard can be raised and lowered allowing the boat to sail on shallow water.
The boat will most likely need a crane to get out of the yard. The good transport company out of Stockton, MO is called Spurgeon Yachts 417-276-5101. Probably at a cost of $3000. Just letting you know. We are asking $5000 for the sailboat, with accessories.
