Description & Details
Set inside an award-winning East Side adobe home, the Gaynor Estate brings together a deeply personal mix of art, furniture, sculpture, folk art and unusual collectibles.
The architecture feels inseparable from the collection. Carved wood, deep nichos, vigas and softly plastered walls frame New Mexican retablos, Southwestern furniture, Native American textiles, Latin American devotional objects, Japanese and African decorative arts, contemporary sculpture and folk art.
Among the standouts are works by Charlie Carrillo and Nicholas Otero, a substantial group of Jeremy Morelli Southwestern furniture, Scott Radke marionettes, Paolo Soleri wind chimes, Paul McCarl stone bears, a New Mexican colcha weaving, and a remarkably varied assortment of collectible objects.
This is also a sale for people who like the objects that are hard to categorize.
Look for South American and Latin American sterling devotional frames, a solid silver Chanukiah, a Civil War-era U.S. cavalry box, a Bill Reid Thundervest, and a collection devoted to Frida Kahlo, including prints, postcards and a painted cabinet.
Throughout the house are smaller discoveries too: santos, nichos, ceramics, textiles, silver, carved figures, miniatures and decorative objects gathered from across cultures and periods.
