Description & Details
Hello, friends!
I almost don’t know where to begin when describing the contents of this marvelously eclectic home!
My sweet friend Susan said I should start with the color and uniqueness! And, she is correct! It is truly a riot of color throughout this house and there is something unique and seldom seen in each room.
MAIN BEDROOM: I’ll start with the parrot wardrobe in the main bedroom. It’s a little over 6 feet tall and about 3 1/2 feet wide. Those marvelous parrots are each a 3’ long explosion of color! Hand painted in Mexico.
And the bed! (or beds, since they are 2 twin beds put together to make a king.) European, also hand painted, gold gilded, and definitely one of a kind.
Directly across sits an antique rosewood dragon chair. A deeply carved semi-circle of scales forms the chairs back curving into a dragons head complete with eyes, nose, and its mouth holding a ball. The chair is supported on all four corners by legs that curve into dragons with wings.
To the right is a Baroque library table hand carved with a prominent face in the center, faces on all four corner supports, and an ornate carved figure on the center crest anchoring the stretches.
A hand painted Chinese 4 panel screen, antique French Louis XV armchairs, and an antique Japanese dragon vanity, an antique Victorian East Lake pedestal table, and a lovely hand painted side table completes the furniture in this room.
The room is anchored by a 13 1/2 ft wool Persian runner.
There are two Hollywood Regency lamps and an extraordinary Genie lamp that you really must see!
LIBRARY: I really don’t have enough space or words to describe the ‘Library’…. Think English Chippendale, African-American folk art, a Ukrainian Carpathian sheep wool blanket, Bohemian style multicolored leather bench, Houston Gallery Row art, handcrafted pieces from Liberia‘s Ivory Coast and Mexico, Art Deco lamps, French armchair, Hollywood Regency, iron art, a rare MacKenzie Child’s coffee table (for heaven sakes), and a gargoyle! (And, that is not all!)
LOUIS VUITTON ROOM: Onto the Louis Vuitton room! How many times are you ever going to hear that? Seven pieces from Vintage to modern. It’s all stacked in front of a vintage carved Mahogany beveled Cheval mirror next to the Ralph Lauren wool jacket and leather travel bag.
The table in this room is loaded with fabulous costume jewelry, Zara and Gucci shoes (size 7 1/2 to 8), handbags, necklaces, sunglasses, gloves, and a large black rhinestone spider brooch (you know you want it!). There are also two really beautiful handpainted porcelain lamps
Let’s see what’s on the rack of clothes and scarves. A nice cashmere wrap, vintage women’s crocodile belt M, a gorgeous sequin and beaded scarf wrap. Ooohhh, clothes by Ellie Tahari, Roberto Cavalli, Moda International, Donna Karan, Halston, Free People— oh, wow! Chloe made in France!— Zara, Ann Klein, Mary Green, Norma Kamili, Armani, Cole Hahn, DKNY, Biya Johnny Was, UGG, Betsy Johnson, Giorgio Armani. (For you horseback riders, there are size 6 and size 4 riding pants from the Tailored Sportsman.) In addition to the pieces I just named on the rack, there are 4 more closets of fabulousness. The size range is predominantly a size 8, or small, or medium…(though, there are a few size large.)
We have several stars in our clothing show:
Gianni Versace Couture
Versace‘s Autumn/Winter 1990 1991 Collection was a significant one. Pieces from this Collection are considered rare and collectors items. In the front room near the checkout, you will find a long wool coat featuring extensive black beating and sequin embroidery.
Ren Ellis Design for North Beach Leather. This is a leather fringe jacket with beaded accents, definitely a statement piece! It doesn’t look like it’s ever been worn.
Designer VIVIENNE TAM Vintage 1990s Buddha mesh maxi dress and 2 tops.
Right across from the two French closets, you’ll see boots and shoes! Holy smoke! They’re all top notch and name brands like Zara, DKNY, Carlos Santana, Donald Pliner, Stuart Weitzman. There’s also a new in the box pair of ARIAT Heritage Contour II Field Zip riding boots. Sizes run 7 1/2 to 8. More shoes, handbags, lamps, and goodies on top of the French closets.
ARABIAN NIGHTS ROOM: On to the Arabian Nights room 😜 It’s the room with the fabulous Persian pictorial rug and “THAT” oil painting (❤️)
More swoon-worthy clothes, French chair, console table. A shelf stacked with wool, down, velvet, cotton, woven, and quilted blankets and throws.
Two racks of silk, velvet, embroidered, sheer, slubbed silk draperies. Vintage Bohemian and Indian textiles.
King and full-size duvet covers with shams and throws.
A small closet packed, packed with wonderful textiles.
A stunning figure Mahogany wardrobe, beautiful Color and patination. Good, deep hanging space and storage.
An Oil on Canvas of a lady reading a book titled ‘The Reader’
LIVING ROOM: When you enter the home, the living room is to your immediate right. In this cheerful, welcoming room there are two pieces that stand out, in my opinion.
First is the Baroque Revival Table. Of course it’s beautifully carved but the carvings are very interesting and unique! There are carved faces on all four corners of this table but the star of this piece is the horned face in the center showing its tongue! How cheeky and how fun! There are scrolling acanthus leaves and floral patterns around the top and bottom of the table and wonderfully ornate bulbus carved legs. Beautiful, but eyes will always be drawn to the impertinent center carving.
Second is the Persian hand knotted wool rug from the Kashmar region. Rugs from this region are known for their refined workmanship and distinctive medallion and pictorial designs. This rug is no exception. Because of the exceptional quality of this rug, I took it and the rug in the dining room to Houston to be professionally cleaned by my friend David of David’s Oriental Rugs. He is the finest in Houston and the quality of these two rugs warranted them being shown at their best.
FURNITURE: Two Louis XV Rococo style Bergere chairs, traditional down filled sofa, antique Camelback sofa with carved wood frame and cabriole legs, antique Edwardian style Mahogany two-tiered marquetry table, two small side tables, a hand carved French Brittany chair from a north east province in France.
ART: Vintage oil on board original paintings of tricolored King Charles spaniels, an original oil on canvas reproduction of ‘Beauty at the Well’, an original oil on canvas of a young girl with a red ribbon in her hair, and original oil on linen depicting a vibrant European marketplace, an original oil on board Baroque style scene of a cozy barn filled with sheep.
LAMPS: Vintage Hollywood Regency Amber blown glass lamp in the style of Carl Falkenstein, Hollywood Regency multitiered pedestal lamp with tall flared silk lampshade, antique iron floor lamp, Victorian era style silk fringe shade.
Modern model of an Antonia Stradivarius violin, designed in Italy, violin, bow, rosin, and hard case. As seen in the pictures, the Baroque Revival table holds silver plated trays and Crystal.
DINING ROOM: NOTED FURNITURE: 19th century Victorian Aesthetic Movement cabinet. Ebonized finish, intricate marquetry, mirrored panels, and original silk velvet backing. Possibly HERTER Brother.
A late 19th century, very fine Napoleon III Black Lacquered cabinet with gilded bronze friezes and decoration.
An Italian Renaissance style carved, leaded glass niche cabinet with cherub ornamentation.
A Louis XV style marquetry and bronze display cabinet. Four velvet covered shelves, three curved glass panels.
Two pairs of French Brittany chairs, carved in high relief. Made in Brittany, Maritime province of Northwest France.
ART: An original oil on canvas titled ‘Lingering Melodies from Xunyang River, after Chen Yifei. Original oil on canvas by French impressionist Sully Misso. English Fox Hunt scenes, oil on board.
LAMPS: antique Jefferson Company bronze slag glass lamp from the Arts & Crafts period. Art deco bridge lamp with opulent fringe shade. Art Deco period RAYMONDE GUERRERO style figural lamp. Stepped back green marble base. Inspired by Egyptian Revival Period.
RUG: Persian NAHAVAND wool rug. 5.2 x 10.5.
ART WALL
When you enter through the front door, directly ahead of you near the checkout area, there is a wall of Devotional Art and Spiritual Carvings These early 1900s paintings are original Peruvian oil on linen canvas in the CUZO SCHOOL style. Some bear an official export clearance stamp from Peru’s National Institute of Culture indicating the work was reviewed and released as non-protected cultural property prior to its export. These pieces are detailed and exceptional works of art.
To the right, on the wall across from the jewelry counter, you will find Antique Russian Icons and some pretty fancy crystal…Baccarat, French champagne coupes, Fabergé wine stems, Lalique, Pairpoint, Waterford Lismore. (and a Mary Frances handbag tucked in the middle!)
JEWELRY: I will let the photos speak for themselves, but know there is more, there is more.
