Items of Value, Inc
Description & Details
This sale is in the largest unit of the Watergate complex. You will discover many items here. We have three focuses. One is Asian items. You will find Asian art, porcelain, collectibles in several rooms. Second is Turkish kilims. We offer you a room of tables filled with over 90 Turkish kilims and a few rugs. A 9'x12' thick pile Indian rug in the middle of that room will dazzle your eyes. We put a huge Chinses-style chow table on it. Third is framed artwork. We have been able to bring in and hang much fine art, which you will enjoy discovering as you walk room-to-room.
As soon as you walk into this unit, you will be surprised to see the large red kimono hanging on the wall. Over my head at the checkout table you will also discover a large framed limited edition "Les Alpilles" by Godard. This is only the start of the many works of fine art that you will find in walking through the unit.
We have set the black dining table with the white dinnerware we found in the condo and added red crystal goblets and red/clear cut crystal dishes for color contrast. Behind it we have set up tables to accommodate three display cases of small items. They include FINE jewelry, especially rings, necklaces including one of large chunks of turquoise, ivory carvings. We put two Asian-style table lamps there. To the left is a large framed Indian print that was left by the previous unit owners. It is flanked on the right by an original inked Italian picture and on the left by a print and an original small painting of Paris. Turning around you will discover a FINE Afghan hand-embroidery of various colors, also in an imposing frame. You will find two small enamel-on-copper scenes by Carol Simkin on the right wall beneath two framed woodblock prints. The Simkin enamels are small, so you will have to look for them. You might do some on-line research on Carol Simkin before you come to the sale.
If you decide to go into the living room next, you will be surprised by all that is there. A FINE silk rug hangs on the wall to the left of the pair of French doors while a rather expensive watercolor on silk "blue cloud" scroll hangs on the right. A matched pair of Chinese rank panels (these being for second rank civilian) hang side-by-side over the glass-top demilune table which displays two antique cast metal figures, a calligraphy brush with large red coral handle (RARE) and another of jade barrel shapes. A modern triptych hangs of the brown leather sofabed, by an American artist, inspired by the antique woodblock print triptychs of Japan. A pair of piereceut white barrle-shape table lamps sit on black side tables. The one of the left has a large colorful charger. The one on the right has an arched piercecut ivory tusk outdoor scene with a purposely contrasting tall pagoda.
Of Asian inspiration are the two "Yellow Prunus" tea sets on the coffee table. Wedgwood "Adams" teacups/saucers and demitasse cups/saucers sit on the low black table at the window. Beside it is a vintage or antique tray table with antique Japanese teacups/saucers. To the left is a box of the greatest amount of Thai brass flatware that we have ever had. The pieces appear to never have been used. As you look around you will discover ceramic cups in sets of five. Know that traditionally, Asian sets were five while our tradition is twelve. When you count ten pieces in a set, you are not seeing twelve minus two broken pieces but two sets of five each. We have FINE Asian pottery pieces in this sale.
You will find framed woodblock prints in several rooms. We have put the unframed ones inside plastic sleeves in the room off the living room. You will discover other items plus books on the shelves there, a large group of miniature Chinese "mud figures", a small collection of brassware, a hand-painted jacket hanging in the alcove.
The master bedroom is where we set up tables of kilims and also where we hung more kimonos. The antique oak bench is probably English. The vintage/antique brass brazier is probably Turkish.
At the opposite end of the condo are more of everything. Additionally, we offer you vintage Madame Alexander dolls, a vintage pair of Dutch boy/girl dolls, plus a collection of dolls from all over the world. A fairly large cast bronze of flying geese sits on top of a small black refrigerator in one corner in front of three framed woodblock prints. A very unique lighted imaginary scene with wizard and dragon sits on a table there beside a miniature "step tansu" and a Chinese embroidery. A few fine Longaberger baskets sit on the table to the right of the window.
A small bedroom with three cabinets of mirrored doors shows off a custom-made single bed with headboard/footboard of walnut and maple (?). We put three vintage hand-made quilts on it plus a package of brand new sheets. The brass stringing inlaid chest there is one of two we have for you. On top of this one is a vintage pair of male/female Japanese ceramic figural lamps. The woman is kneeling while sewing. The male is painting a Japanese lantern. A framed hand-painted hand fan is displayed in a teak frame above them.
Don't forget to go out on the balcony. There you will find two LARGE ceramic planter pots, patio table and chairs, plus a 5' high display column, and a 3' high fountain. If you could use one, you will also find there a large satellite dish on tripod stand.
Please bring empty tote bags with you. Look forward to this WONDERFUL sale.
