Description & Details

History is about to be made again! 517 Prince is one of the areas most remarkable properties - dating from 1772. This location was known for Joe Reeder's yearly "Legendary Spring Garden Sales".

This is the 1st and only sale of Joe Reeder's vast personal collection.

The end of an era, but the beginning of a new one. A last chance to own a piece of history from this amazing house, as it is transitioned to the city of Alexandria and protected to become part of the public domain.

Many of the items have been in the house for newly 200 years - as the ownership was passed from family and much has been left behind. This in itself is nearly unique in archival history!

The most recent owner passed recently at 99 years of age. He was famous for being a voracious collector who "rescued" unique things often with imperfections, but rock solid in their authenticity. . . including the house itself. It was purchased, partially furnished, with antiques and art - Some dating back to 1804. The extensive collection includes:

Classic George Washington images from 2 centuries including his beloved Mt. Vernon and his family.

Joe's innumerable "rescues".

Authentic fragments of history.

4 era of President Lincoln dining room chairs.

4 ladder back chairs - Shaker style.

Two and three tiered tables.

Large collection of ruby red Bohemian glass.

Numerous Currier & Ives images of US Presidents.

Old frames for "project restoration".

Pre-Cival War Piano-forte with stunningly restored case.

Numerous rugs "in all conditions".

Several single 18th c chairs.

Lovely Civil War era portrait of a Lady.

Several early hutch cupboards (shown upon request).

Early mirrors.

George Washington portrait in plaster - in classical style.

Group of mid-19th c news papers from upstate NY towns and others locations.

Extensive collection of unusal ephemera.

Very quirky and unusual, seldom seen, oddities from long ago.

19thc decorated stoneware.

Choice examples of American Basketry.

Quilts, coverlets and other textiles.

Fireplace tools.

Items too numerous to list- including China and crystal.
