Please join us as we make this historic home ready for its new owner and have a toast to a true Richmond legend along the way.
The Adams Double House, built in 1809, is an exceptional example among historic homes in Richmond. This elegant Federal style (with Victorian front entry and stairs) is a gem among gems. Recently featured on Historic Garden Week, the 1,700 sq foot home features 4 floors, brick floors, pine accents, stunning garden and best of all - an amazing view from the 4th floor windows.
This is a once in a lifetime chance to see this amazing 217 year old home and support the Valentine Museum at the same time! Per Bill's request, all proceeds of the sale will be donated to his beloved Valentine Museum. This is who Bill was at his essence, always looking for ways to help others. But we should remember that this is not just a gift to the museum - it is really a gift to ALL of us who love, visit and treasure the Valentine!
His home is (by his own words)...simple, no fuss, no frills. But, we think he was being a bit modest... the home is beautifully furnished. Antiques handed down through his family, wonderful assortment of lamps - old and new, rugs, mirrors, chests and books. And a few practical things like sofas, beds, dining tables tables, desks, dressers, vintage trunks, chairs... and the fun stuff... the ART! He was an ecelectic collector of art and loved to support local Richmond artists - so the house is full of rare art finds of all sorts, shapes, sizes and mediums.
The garden has teak patio furniture (bench and two chairs), sundial, planters, cement bench and a stunning trellis that was handmade for him from salvage parts! It is a tiny oasis attached to an amazing home. We can not wait to share this with you.
Please join us Thursday, June 11th 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Doors open prompty at 3:00 p.m. and then we will run the sale all weekend 10 to 3.
Just a side note: there are 49 steps from the basement to the 4th floor. I know this - for I have climbed them a LOT! About step 35 I start thinking...I would be a whole lot thinner if I lived here! lol
The staircases were built in 1809...so they are tight and, although handrials have been installed, they are steep! Please keep this in mind when making shoe selections for the visit! Also, due to the size of the home - please no large bags or handbags. You will see what I mean when you get there. If you bring some bags (which we greatly appreciate), we can set them at check out for you! And speaking as a Mom, if you have your little ones with you, please be super vigilant and hold their hands at all times - open sided staircases on two floors.
This is a strictly non smoking home (inside and out) and there were no pets.
