This early 1900s home in Old Southwest Roanoke has been a part of the Old Southwest Parlor Tour a few times. The lovely Georgian brick home features many 19th-century wooden furnishings that the family salvaged and restored. Upstairs is a handsome Victorian burled walnut bedroom set and a lady’s dressing mirror. Another bedroom features a huge walnut armoire and a mahogany bed from the 1800s. In the smaller bedroom is an oak cradle rescued from the train station in St. Louis, velvet chairs from the Hotel Roanoke during renovation, a gorgeous maple veneer sideboard from 1840 (est.)
So many beautiful pottery pieces made by local and Seagrove Artists from NC. A spinning wheel and a mahogany Herschede tall case clock. Paintings and artwork from so many artists like Petie Brigham, local Old SW painter, two of her pieces, a Clore & Son Stool, and a matching pair of walnut chairs upholstered in a lovely navy and rose print fabric.
A family member remembers playing in the huge wardrobes all over the house and listening to broadcasts on the shortwave radios in the basement from around the globe. The owner's roll-top desk has many wonderful places to store and hide things.
Books, books, books. A family of readers, there is a wonderful collection to choose from and many hold a lot of history. More items include twin brass beds, MCM Desk, and a matching shelf. There is even a large loom in the Attic. So many wonderful treasures to discover! Multiple wooden templates for iron castings from a local foundry. A mahogany secretary, crocks, tables and benches, piano, photography equipment, including a Beseler 45 MCRX B & W photo enlarger, and darkroom supplies.
