Description & Details

This is a big, big sale, so big it will require four days to do it. SALE STARTS 9:00AM LABOR DAY. This is the first thing you need to do Monday Morning: Come to our sale. But first, let us tell you a little bit about the area.

The sale house is located in the coveted University Heights Subdivision in Springfield, very near Phelps Grove Park. Phelps Grove was officially established as a public park in 1914, making it one of the earliest parks acquired by the Springfield Park Board. The land was purchased during the Civil War era. The park is named after John Phelps, a prominent figure in Springfield's history. He was a Civil War-era congressman and a notable unionist in southwest Missouri. His wife, Mary Whitney Phelps, was also significant, having treated wounded soldiers during the Civil War and establishing orphanages after the war.

Initially, the park featured a variety of attractions, including a man-made lake and a small zoo that housed animals such as alligators and monkeys. The zoo operated in the park until 1923, at which time it was relocated to what is now the Dickerson Park Zoo. The park's original features included a fieldstone pavilion, bridges, and entry gates, many of which still exist today. In the 1930s, improvements were made, including the construction of the McGee-McGregor Wading Pool and stonework along Fassnight Creek, a project that was part of the WPA/CCC efforts during the Great Depression.

After you visit our sale head North a few blocks and spend a little time enjoying Phelps Grove Park. It has a nice, paved trail that allows you to enjoy the park's natural beauty, including its historic features, gardens, and the surrounding landscape. After walking the trail, you can be a kid again and spend some time swinging on the swings. Now more about the big, big sale....
