Need an estate sale in the Chicagoland? Here are helpful tips and advice to protect you before hiring a company. This is NOT like hiring a lawn company to mow your grass. This is a very important decision that can be an amazing process or a nightmare!
.) Avoid companies with setup/upfront fees
.) Avoid companies that want guaranteed money regardless of sale performance (no incentive to work hard and make the sale successful)
.) Avoid companies that are cash only (losing potential credit card sales and most likely not a real registered business.)
.) Avoid companies where the company owner is not consistently on-site (mismanaged sale and potential employee theft)
.) Avoid companies that allow items to be presold before the estate sale (In most cases its the company owner selling to personal family and friends.)
.) Do research on multiple companies before making a decision (DON’T HIRE THE FIRST COMPANY YOU TALK TO!)
.) Read online reviews from actual previous clients (Reviews get muddled up from shoppers leaving a review for a good purchase. Look for reviews where people ACTUALLY HIRED THE COMPANY)
.) Do multiple in-person interviews before making a decision.
.) Make sure the estate sale company shows proof of liability insurance.
.) After weighing the pros and cons of each company - make an educated decision that you are comfortable with.
