This is an antique or vintage trestle desk, also referred to as a library table. The desk is supported by two strong side supports (trestles) rather than four individual legs, which are connected by a stretcher bar at the bottom. The desk has a black base and what would appear to be a burled or veneered wood top.
Similar pieces from different periods and styles, such as American Empire Revival or Art Deco, share some characteristics with this desk. Antique trestle desks are often associated with the Arts and Crafts and Mission styles of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
