Ended Pennsylvania Berks County Decorated Pine Blanket Chest

Description: A rare vinegar grain-painted pine blanket chest with stencil decoration as well as painted bracket feet and borders. This is an outstanding example of a late 18th Century Berks County, Pennsylvania blanket chest (probably of German descent). The chest features wood-pegged construction joining the lid and bordering trim. It also has beautiful exposed dovetail boxing, original hinge straps and hardware, original milk-painted trim bordering the drawers, and a vinegar grain-painted design with stencil work. The two drawers flanking the center drawer each have a hidden locking mechanism that can be accessed by reaching underneath each drawer and pressing the lock stop trigger (see images). The chest does have some repairs, namely the addition of a thin piece of trim that extends just above the center and righthand drawers. The lid also has some old brass screws added to reinforce a corner. The bracket feet also appear to have been repaired at some point.
