Welcome to the Summer 2026 edition of our Islamic & Indian Art auction on Wednesday 10 June, featuring an exceptional selection of Islamic manuscripts, Ottoman works of art, Persian ceramics, Gandharan sculpture, and Indian paintings. Among the highlights is an important group of early Qur?anic and literary manuscripts in kufic and maghribi scripts (lots 1 to 5), alongside a distinguished collection of Ottoman art, including a striking Iznik dish (lot 12) and several rare objects associated with the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca. The Persian section features notable Safavid works, including rare cuerda-seca tile panels depicting animals and beautifully preserved Resht embroidered textiles. The Indian art section includes an important portrait of the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb (lot 74), depicting the ruler in later life, as well as an impressive equestrian portrait of Emperor Muhammad Azam Shah mounted on a richly caparisoned palomino (lot 79). Another standout is a detailed painting of the famed Lake Palace in Udaipur, once described as ?a dream floating on Lake Pichola?, rendered with extraordinary architectural precision and atmosphere (lot 117). The sale also includes works from several notable private collections, including paintings formerly owned by the celebrated scholar Stuart Cary Welch, whose handwritten notes on the reverse of certain works offer fascinating insight into his connoisseurship (lots 126 to 133). A further private collection from Aberdeenshire brings together works evocative of colonial India, including paintings associated with Shaykh Muhammad Amir of Karraya alongside works by Thomas Daniell, Emily Eden and C.G. Austrian glass and bronze figurines are the focus of the auction on June 16. We are particularly pleased to present a large collection of various vase designs from the Johann Loetz Wwe. glassworks. More than half of the lot consists of items from the estate of a well-known German collector. An extremely rare ?creta mit Beh?ngen? vase from 1900 is sure to attract interest here. (Lot 211) A set of six ceiling lights produced by the Austrian company, featuring various ?Ph?nomen? designs, should also appeal to enthusiasts. Until now, they have illuminated a room in a private Munich residence. (Lot 217) Two rare works by Franz Hofst?tter are also available for purchase. (Lots 208 and 232) he Austrian trend continues with the figurative bronzes. First, we are pleased to offer one of the extremely rare ?Nautilus? table lights by Gustav Gurschner, dating from 1899. The cephalopod?s shell fits perfectly into the bronze base, which is designed to resemble natural forms and is modeled after seaweed; the figure of a mermaid wrapped around the stem lends the piece an aura of the fantastical and the Symbolist (Lot 262). We are particularly delighted to present a rare ceiling light by Otto Prutscher from 1924. The light arms wind stem-like around a fluted brass shaft, then transition into spiral-like blossoms. (Lot 327). Similar floral-style motifs can also be found in the two candelabra attributed to Dagobert Peche (Lot 324). Five works by the Hungarian artist Vilmos Zsolnay dominate the ceramics selection. Particularly noteworthy here are a handled vase with a lobster by the ceramist Sandor Apati Abt (Lot 364) and a jug with a sculptural leaf handle by Lajos Mack (Lot 365). Emile Gall? is also represented in this auction with several rare pieces of furniture, including a very rare ?Berce de Pr?s? chest of drawers, circa 1902 (Lot 306)Austrian glass and bronze figurines are the focus of the auction on June 16. RADICAL BEAUTIES Important Design from a Private Collection When nearly 260 lots go under the hammer on June 17 under the title ?Radically Beautiful: Significant Design from a Private Collection,? the focus will be not only on a wonderful selection of international design classics but also on the story of a collection passionately built up by a German couple of collectors. One of the motivations for these two successful design enthusiasts?who, over a period of forty years, visited galleries, studied catalogs, and traveled in search of their personal favorite pieces?was their delight in objects with a clear aesthetic and compelling narrative power. Some objects in the collection have been exhibited in museums in the past, were part of the 2002 Expo in Hanover, and can be seen in an award-winning short film, which can be viewed in segments via QR codes in the auction catalog. ?After forty years of collecting, we are sending our favorite pieces back into the world where we found them.?RADICAL BEAUTIES Important Design from a Private Collection When nearly 260 lots go under the hammer on June 17 under the title ?Radically Beautiful: Significant Design from a Private Collection,? the focus will be not only on a wonderful selection of international design classics but also on the story of a collection passionately built up by a German couple of collectors. Approximately 260 lots will go under the hammer at our design auction on June 18. Among the most valuable lots is a rare figurative sculpture by the Danish sculptor Axel Salto. Salto, celebrated for his expressive ceramic vessels inspired by natural forms and striking glazes, is represented in the auction by a ceramic head. This piece was exhibited in Charlottenborg in 1949, the year it was created, and later shown again at the Designmuseum Danmark. The work bears the artist’s signature as well as the manufacturer’s mark of KPM Royal Copenhagen and enters the auction with an estimated price of €45,000–50,000. Other highlights of the auction include two iconic seating pieces by Ron Arad. The one-of-a-kind armchair ‘Big Easy Vol. 2’, signed by Ron Arad, designed in 1988, and acquired c. 2009 from Barry Friedman in New York, makes an absolutely electrifying statement in any collector’s interior with its red lacquer finish (estimated price €18,000–30,000). Quittenbaum Kunstauktionen has been entrusted with a collection from a German private collection, comprising Memphis furniture, lighting, and ceramic objects by Ettore Sottsass—some of which are very rarely seen on the market; including the ‘Alessandria d’Egitto’ shelves from the ‘bau.haus II’ collection (estimated price €9,000–12,000) and the ‘Max’ shelf (estimated price €7,000–9,000). Among our favorites is also the “Svincolo?? lamp, designed in 1979, featuring a Bacteria pattern on dark blue. The “Odalisca?? totem, designed in 1967 and likely manufactured by Bitossi or Mirabili, is in excellent condition and starts at €20,000 in the auction. The offering is complemented by three ceramics from the ‘Yantra’ series, produced in 1969/70 by the Design Centre Poltronova.Approximately 260 lots will go under the hammer at our design auction on June 18. An early bangle by Hermann Jünger from 1968 (estimate €8,000–10,000), crafted in gold and set with stones, impressively embodies his early, now iconic style. Friedrich Becker makes a statement with his precisely crafted pieces. His famous ball ring with interchangeable stone elements (estimate €2,000–3,000) is among the artist’s key works and was awarded the Bavarian State Prize in 1959—a milestone in modern jewelry design. Italian positions traditionally play a prominent role in art jewelry. Annamaria Zanella’s designs captivate with their poetic use of materials, as seen in her “Venetian Yellow?? necklace (estimated price €2,500–3,500). The necklace, crafted from iron shells set with glass microbeads, is a play of light and form that creates a vibrant surface. Pierfrancesco Raveane is equally impressive with an intricately crafted necklace of movable gold links (estimated price €8,000–10,000). The opulent bracelet by Maurizio Fusari makes a visual statement; its combination of gold, lapis lazuli, and watermelon tourmaline has an extraordinary presence (estimated price €25,000–30,000).At the auction on June 18, 2026, Quittenbaum will present an exceptionally curated selection of over 130 pieces, including studio jewelry, art jewelry, and high-quality gems from renowned brands. About Leonid Afremov Leonid Afremov (1955-2019) was a Belarusian-Israeli painter internationally recognized for his distinctive use of the palette knife, a technique that allowed him to create richly textured surfaces and striking depth without the use of traditional brushes. His work is immediately identifiable by its intense color saturation, bold contrasts, and luminous light effects, often depicting rain-soaked streets, glowing lampposts, quiet parks, and romantic urban scenes. Afremov had a unique ability to transform everyday moments into emotionally charged compositions filled with warmth, nostalgia, and movement. Working primarily with oil on canvas, he built his compositions through layers of thick, expressive strokes, giving each painting a sculptural quality. His signature style blends elements of modern impressionism with a highly personal visual language that emphasizes atmosphere over detail. Unlike many contemporary artists, Afremov achieved global recognition largely outside traditional gallery systems, connecting directly with collectors worldwide. Today, his works are widely collected for their decorative impact, accessibility, and instantly recognizable aesthetic, making them especially appealing for both new and seasoned art buyers. This auction presents a vibrant and carefully assembled selection of works in the unmistakable style of Leonid Afremov, celebrated for his expressive palette knife technique and luminous use of color.
