Edith Kramer (1916-2014) was an Austrian born artist and pioneering figure in art therapy. She fled Nazi persecution and built a legacy blending social realism painting with psychoanalytic principles. Born in Vienna in 1916, Kramer started art training at age 13 under Friedl Dicker, a Bauhaus graduate. She followed Dicker to Prague in 1934, where she first observed art's therapeutic effects on refugee children. With fear of the Nazi invasion, Kramer fled to New York City in 1938.
