Up for bid is a fantastic oil on canvas by listed artist, Edwin Burrage Child (American, 1868-1937. Portrait of a young girl with fan and purse, signed and dated lower right, in a gilded frame. Please note the light 1” impression on the canvas, noted in the picture.

Edwin Burrage Child was a prominent New England portraitist and landscape painter during the first few decades of the twentieth century. In 1894 he married Anna Sykes of Dorset, Vermont, beginning a life long connection to the southern part of the Green Mountain State. He studied art at the Art Student's League in New York, where he was an assistant to the famed artist John LaFarge. He spent most of his summers at his home, "Two Barns," in Dorset, painting landscapes of the surrounding area, before moving there permanently in 1927.

The black and white photo is Child with his daughter at an exhibit of his work at The Smithsonian.
