Ended Martin Blank Signed Glass Sculpture, “Silver Blue Figure” 2001

Martin Blank (American b.1962) is known for his figurative work, such as this piece,
which represents the grace and flow of the human form in blown glass. He begin his
professional career working with and learning from Dale Chihuly. Blank's early
figurative work swiftly solidified his place as a premier figurative sculptor working in
glass. As with this piece, Blank’s ability to create fluidity from the commanding
musculature of a male torso shows a direct connection to natural forms. Says Blank,
“I am an intuitive artist. I work on the way forms relate to each other to cut a line in
space that flows, turns and carries the eye around the piece. The forms reveal a
negative space that is as vital and potent as the actual objects. My sculptural work is
as much about the void as the mass.” Blank’s pieces can be found in many public art
collections, including The Corning Museum of Glass, the Mary & Leigh Bloch
Museum of Art (Northwestern Univ, Evanston, IL), the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston,
the Shanghai Museum of Fine Art (China),
The seller acquired this from Habatat Gallery, 222 W Superior, Chicago, currently
named the Echt Gallery.
