George Edwin Ewing (1828–1884): Born in Birmingham to Scottish parents, George established a successful sculpting career in Glasgow. He was renowned for his marble busts of prominent figures, including members of the Royal Family. One of his most significant works is the bronze statue of Robert Burns in George Square, Glasgow, completed between 1874 and 1877. In 1879, he relocated to the United States for health reasons but continued his artistic endeavors until his death in 1884.
This may very well be the last sculpture that George Ewing created. He must have brought this substantial sculpture with him to the United States in his travels from Glasgow, Scotland in 1879.
This sculpture weighs between 400-500 lbs.
