Braque is known as a founder of the cubism movement. He spent his formative years in
Le Havre and studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. His art evolved from impressionism
to more Fauvism and he showed his Fauve art in the Paris Salon. In 1909 he
collaborated with Picasso to develop cubism. This art movement threw away realism
and perspective, and instead focused on simple geometric shapes in painting and
sculpture. One of Braque’s contributions to cubism was the addition of collage, a
common technique he used in his own art pieces.

He was prosperous, had high acclaim and fame as an artist in Europe and in the last
years of his live was honored with a high-profile retrospective all over the world
including the Louvre.
