Translation: Landscape

Dauchot was born near Paris. His father was an architect. He is primarily thought of as
a French post-war expressionism painter. His parents encouraged him and he began
painting when he was 14 and in 1942 he studied at Ecole des Beaux-Arts. When he
was just eighteen, he was admitted to the Salon d’Automne. His first solo show was at
the Galerie Granoff in 1945. Throughout his life he received lots of acclaim. One
example of this was a catalogue from 1992, on the occasion of a retrospective
dedicated to him. He was presented as one of the greatest artists of Paris, in the
tradition of Utrillo. This comparison to Utrillo was especially true, as Dauchot shared a
taste for ironic and tender scene, painted by a sharp brush.

Fans of his include Greta
Garbo and Arthur Rubinstein. Special exhibitions of his works were held in Los Angeles,
New York, Geneva, Zurich and Basel. Edward G. Robinson sponsored a Dauchot
exhibition at the Hatfield Gallery in Los Angeles.
